What is MerciaCare?

MerciaCare is part of Mercia Business Associates, with a specific focus in quality assured self-assessment within the UK care sector.

Self-Assessment requirements within the care sector

Registered care homes are required to meet minimum care standards & are subject to regular inspections by The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI).  April 2006 saw CSCI’s report ‘Inspecting for Better Lives” published, announcing the reduction in national budgets for the inspection of care homes and as a consequence, care homes need to have in place a comprehensive self-assessment quality assurance system by April 2007.

These announcements are linked to plans to award “Star Rating” to England’s adult social care providers, where between one & four stars will identify the performance of delivery from a care provider, assessed against CSCI inspection results.
These recommendations have now been ratified & approved by Parliament (July 2006).  This requires that every care provider is to have in place or be working towards a self-assessment system by April 2007.

These changes will apply to:

  • Elder Care homes & Nursing homes (65+)
  • Adult Care (18-65)
  • Domiciliary care agencies.

What does MerciaCare Offer?

MerciaCare has developed a self-assessment tool to ensure that managers and owners of care homes are able to meet CSCIs self-assessment requirements.
This self-assessment tool is ‘designed by care home operators for care home operators’.  It is designed to minimise the impact of these changes on the day-to-day running of the business.  Having a simple structure & an easy-to-use format, MerciaCare’s system can be implemented within the normal administration of any care home.

Care homes that operate this system demonstrate significant improvements when next inspected by CSCI.

Since this system was introduced to address the changes in quality requirements becoming law, the response from the industry has been overwhelming; with over 70% of all care homes contacted choosing to introduce this system to their operation.

What’s the opportunity?

Due to this high demand and with over 70% of all care homes contacted choosing to introduce this system, there is an opportunity to manage an exclusive, post coded territory on behalf of MerciaCare.  Although the main focus of this opportunity is the direct prospecting, networking and selling of the MerciaCare system, there are a number of added value opportunities, including the offer of training & workshop days and assistance with implementing the system into care homes where timeframes &/or circumstances require a rapid installation.

The opportunity would be supported with full training, field visit mentoring, national data and a help desk to support you all the way.  There is also an ongoing national awareness campaign in place to deliver qualified leads to responses in your area.

A realistic financial return would be:
Year 1 - £35 - £40,000
Year 2 - £40 - £45,000

We believe there is no benefit to either party in creating an unachievable environment.  We are looking for long-term partners and not just short-term relationships.

Who are we looking for?

Although many people would be suitable for this role, there are some clear character traits and work/ life experiences that would be beneficial, these include:

  • Professional individuals
  • Self motivated and hands on
  • Strong engagement skills
  • “People” people
  • Sympathetic closers
  • Sales and/or care sector experience
  • Good local network contacts an advantage
  • People who want to achieve
